Women's Tennis Nearly Perfect In Win Over Ozarks

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern women's tennis breezed to a 9-0 victory over the University of Ozarks Eagles, winning five matches in shutout victories.

Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee defeated Annie Nelligan and Kaitlin Gutierrez 8-1 in No. 1 doubles, Sydney Wahl and Taylor Despriet bested Tatum Hatridge and Anna Ryan 8-2 in No. 2 doubles, and Lauren Chisholm and Sara Le secured an 8-0 victory over Sedalla Shumaker and Tori Woods.

Despriet, Lee, Chisholm, and Meeshti Shethia each won 6-0, 6-0 victories for the Pirates at No. 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles. Mitrofanova defeated Kaitlin Gutierrez 6-1, 6-0, and Chandler Vrba won 6-1, 6-0 over Skylar Frazier.

"Lauren got into the net all day long and really branched out of her comfort zone, finishing many points at the net," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Taylor upped her first-serve percentage today and did so in extreme wind. She adjusted well by not trying to do too much.

"Meeshti drove her inside in forehand really well today and was able to hit through her opponent throughout the match."

The No. 14-ranked Southwestern Pirates improve to 7-2 this season and host the No. 1-ranked University of Chicago on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
