Women's Tennis Shuts Out LeTourneau

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The No. 10 Southwestern women's tennis team shut out the LeTourneau Yellowjackets and showcased the depth of its roster with a 9-0 victory.

Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee were the lone regular doubles pairing in the lineup for Southwestern, picking up a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Madison Morris and Megan LeBlanc in No. 1 doubles. Lauren Chisholm and Taylor Despriet picked up an 8-1 win over Bailey Deatherage and Brandy Weems in No. 2 doubles, and Emma Kesterson and Sara Le defeated Emma Boulanger and Clara Brisman 8-0 in the No. 3 spot.

"Sara entered the doubles lineup and played strong tennis with Emma at No. 3," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "They both played with great energy and were rock solid."

Southwestern shutout LeTourneau with 6-0, 6-0 wins in three of the six singles matches. Despriet defeated Morrison in No. 2 singles, Chisholm bested Weems at No. 4 singles, and Meeshti Shethia won over Brisman in No. 6 singles.

Mitrofanova scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Deatherage in the top spot. Lee picked up a pair of 6-3 wins to defeat LeBlanc in no. 3 singles. Chandler Vrba won 6-0, 6-2 over Boulanger in No. 5 singles.

"Lydia got two much-needed wins today, and I believe it will help her confidence. Lauren also got two wins and has been playing some solid tennis for us lately," Porter says. "Mimi and Chandler both had good wins for us at the bottom of our lineup, and I felt the energy from their teammates during their matches was at a level that helped them to the finish line."

Southwestern improves to 4-1 with the victory. The Pirates will host Whitman on Wednesday, March 16, then hit the road for matches against Skidmore on March 18 and Mary Washington on March 19.
