GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern women's tennis team earned its first win of the season, sweeping the East Texas Baptist University Tigers 9-0 at home.

Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee earned an 8-4 victory over Gabbi Hammerbach and Javde Childress in No. 1 doubles. Next, Alli Ziehm and Taylor Despriet dominated No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 win over Faith Kirk and Andrea Alvarez. Finally, Sydney Wahl and Lauren Chisholm won an 8-3 victory over Kylee Mixon and Isabelle Duart in the No. 3 doubles.

Mitrofanova defeated Hammerbach 6-0, 6-1. Despriet dispatched Childress 6-3, 6-1. Wahl beat Duarte 6-1, 6-0. Lee won over Kirk 6-0, 6-1. Ziehm shutout Keelie Stamson 6-0, 6-0, and Chandler Vrba made her first appearance this season, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Mixon.

"Chandler played aggressive tennis and trusted herself more by coming in on some of those balls. She battled well and got a good win for herself and our team," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Lydia got a much-needed singles win and played much better tennis than her last match on Tuesday. In doubles with Nina, they got off to a slow start but picked it up. Credit our assistant coach Tosha Smith for getting them going.

"Alli Ziehm played more solid tennis today in both singles and doubles, and she continues to impress. Sydney Wahl got a win she needed, and I thought she did a great job of stepping in on her backhand side."

Southwestern improves to 1-3 after its first match against a non-scholarship program. The Pirates will host Concordia on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 5:00 p.m.
