RICHARDSON, Texas - Despite a great start to the dual meet were the Pirates took two of three doubles matches Southwestern fell 5-4 to the University of Texas at Dallas Comets on Friday afternoon. SU falls to 10-7 on the season heading into the SCAC Championships.
Victoria DeLeon and Lali Satyavada teamed up in the #1 slot to begin doubles action and defeated Houston/Solis 8-5. Sarah Johnson and Abigail Sedory lost in the #2 spot, 8-3, to Matlock/Diaz while Fehima Dawy and Kindall Hogenson easily handled Davis/Chapa 8-1 to put Southwestern up 2-1 after doubles matches.
The top four singles struggled on the afternoon as UTD stole the victory with the wins. DeLeon narrowly lost to Houston 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 and Satyavada dropped her match against Solis 6-3, 7-5. Johnson was defeated by Matlock 6-3, 6-4 and Sedory fell to Diaz 6-2, 6-4.
Southwestern won the final two matches as Dawy beat Davis 6-1, 6-4 and Hogenson took down Chapa 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The Pirates next head to the SCAC Championships held in Little Rock, Ark beginning April 23rd. Their seed will be determined late Monday.
