WOMEN'S TENNIS UPSET BY MCMURRY

ABILENE, Texas - The Southwestern women's tennis team, ranked 14th in the region, was upset by the McMurry women's tennis team. The Pirates fell 5-4 and now sit at 4-2 overall on the season.

The Pirates started out strong, sweeping doubles action and going up 3-0. Jessica Gaines and Victoria DeLeon defeated Bloomer/Miller 8-5, Emily Gutzmer and Sara Fitzsimmons easily handled Hathorn/Olsen 8-1, and Abigail Sedory and Sarah Johnson defeated Stone/Dietrich 8-6.

With doubles action under their belt SU got back to work in singles action. DeLeon dominated Rodriguez 8-0, 8-1 to put the Pirates up 4-0 but Southwestern dropped the last five matches of the day.

Fitzsimmons split the first two sets with Zugai 2-6, 7-6 but then fell in the tie-breaker 6-2 in the #2 singles slot. Johnson was bested by Olsen 5,2 while Hogenson had to cut her match with Miller short due to injury.

Sedory dropped her contest with Stone 5,0 and after SU sustained another injury McMurry sealed the win in the #6 singles with a forfeit from Southwestern.

The Pirates will have their first home contest on Friday as they play host to Methodist on Friday at 3:00 pm.
