Women's Golf Earns Two All-SCAC Selections, Finishes Runner-up at SCAC Tournament

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's golf team took to the New Course at White Bluff Golf Resort in Whitney, Texas, for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The teams played 18 holes each day in the 54-hole tournament, which extended from Sunday, April 21st, through Tuesday, April 23rd. The Pirates gained a runner-up finish in the field of seven teams, beating out the third-place finisher, St. Thomas, by three strokes. Southwestern finished with a total team score of 992 (328, 318, 346) through the three rounds, fifty-four shots behind the first-place team, Trinity University. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Two members of the Pirates squad earned All-SCAC honors for their performances: senior Ryleigh Erickson earned First Team All-Conference, and freshman Sydney Jackson captured Second Team honors.
  • Erickson capped off her career in a tie for second in the tournament, ending two shots behind the first-place medalist. Erickson shot rounds of 74, 73, and 86 for a total three-round score of 233 (+17). Her performance marks four straight years of finishing in the top ten at the conference tournament. 
  • Jackson ended in solo seventh place and fired 75 in the final round, the second-best score of the day. Jackson was +23 for the championship with scores of 84, 80, 75 (239), improving by four shots or better each day. 

NOTES

  • Sloane Panter tied for thirteenth in the championship with rounds of 82, 84, and 93 (259). At the end of the opening round, Panter was tied for sixth in the field. 
  • Isabella Valenzuela completed the tournament in sixteenth place with a three-round score of 264.
  • The Pirates were first in the field in scoring average on Par 3s, averaging 3.36 shots on the shortest holes. They were second in the field in Par 4 scoring, averaging 4.76, and second in total pars with 126.
