Women's Golf Finishes Runner Up at FST Invitational

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Golf finished runner-up on Tuesday at the FST Invitational, playing in a thirty-six-hole tournament hosted by Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas. The Pirates ended just eight shots behind the tournament winner and tied for the best team score of the competition in their final round. The women's golf team has now placed second or better in four tournaments thus far in the 2023-2024 season. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Four Pirates placed in the top ten of the tournament, ending with a combined team score of 661 (+85) for the two rounds. 
  • Ryleigh Erickson finished in solo fifth place, carding 84 and 78. She was one and two shots behind the fourth and third-place competitors, respectively. 
  • Mackenzie Brown ended in solo eighth at +21 (87, 78). She tied a tournament-best round with 78 in round two, along with just four other players in the field.
  • Sydney Jackson (84, 84) and Sloane Panter (82, 86) both tied for ninth in the field at +24. 

NOTES

  • The Pirates led the field in three statistical categories, including par three and par four scoring average as well as total number of pars for the tournament. 
  • Rachel Harris concluded in 15th place, while her teammate Isabella Valenzuela ended in 20th.

  • Women's Golf heads to St. Simons Island, Georgia, for the Jekyll Island Invitational set to take place on March 22nd - 24th at King and Prince Golf Club.
