Women's Golf Finishes Fifth in Space City Classic

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Golf opened up their spring season at the Space City Classic on Gus Worthham Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. The Pirates stood in a tie for third place on Monday afternoon after round one, but Southwestern was unable to hang on to that position, ending the tournament in fifth place, eight shots behind the fourth-place finisher, Hardin-Simmons University. 

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ryleigh Erickson led the Pirates in the tournament, finishing in a tie for eighth with a total score of 157 (77, 80). 
  • Sloane Panter ended in a tie for twenty-sixth, carding two rounds of 84, 89 for a total of 173. 
  • Sydney Jackson rounded out the top thirty for the Pirates with rounds of 85, 89, one shot behind Panter. 

NOTES

  • Erickson finished first in the field in scoring on Par Fives, averaging 4.67 shots and -2 for the tournament on its longest holes. 
  • Southwestern concluded round one in a tie for third place with a team total of 327 (+43).
  • The Pirates finished ten shots ahead of SCAC Conference opponent, the University of Dallas.

  • The Pirate women's golf team will compete in the FST Invitational on March 11th and 12th at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas.
