Women's Golf Wins Abilene Intercollegiate

This week the women's golf team finished up their fall season with a win at the Abilene Intercollegiate at Diamondback Golf Course. 

Day one of the Abilene Intercollegiate brought windy conditions which persisted thorugout the first round for the Pirates. Ryleigh Erickson led the Pirates shooting a three-over 74, tying for second going into day two. Erickson also eagled the par five 11th hole. Katherine Montgomery also had a strong round on Monday shooting an eight-over 79. 

Day two brought similar conditions and the Pirates played very well to move up the leaderboard toward their victory over the eight team field. Ryleigh Erickson posted another impressive round, a one-over 72 with an eagle on the par four 13th hole - placing her in second place indiviudally for the event. Isabella Valenzuela also had an eagle on her card for round two with a two on the par four 18th hole. Sydney Jackson improved by 13 shots on day two, shooting a 74. Rachel Harris also improved, shooting a 77 and landing her in the top 10 for the tournament individually. Sloane Panter (79) and Katherine Montgomery (81) rounded out the team score for the second round to earn first place as a team. 

On the second team for Southwestern, Hailey Vardeman (83,77) and Mikayla Childers (83,79) improved on day two, leading the second team to a fifth place finish. 

This win at the Abilene Intercollegiate concludes the Pirates' Fall 2023 season. They will compete again in the Spring of 2024.
