Miller, Cheek, Garza and Montelongo Named WGCA Scholar All-Americans

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (July 5, 2022) – The 2021-22 WGCA All-American Scholar Team was announced today with a total of 1,485 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor.  The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The WGCA All-American Scholar Golf Teams recognize the outstanding academic and athletic achievements in women's college golf, the WGCA All-American Scholar Golf Teams continue to demonstrate the high level academic achievements of the players. The scholars must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for the entirety of their collegiate career.

Madison Miller, Linsey Garza, Kaylee Cheek and Isabel Montelongo all met the academic and athletic qualifications to receive the honors of WGCA Scholar All-Americans.

The four women were part of a team that reached as high as 24th in the WGCA Division III rankings and 23rd in the GolfStat Division III rankings in 2021-2022. Cheek was named to the 2022 SCAC All-Sportsmanship team, Montelongo was named All-SCAC Women's Golf First Team and Garza also earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention honors earlier this season. Garza and Miller have now been named WGCA All-American Scholars three times in their careers at Southwestern.

The women's golf team at Southwestern has demonstrated academic discipline year in and year out as the team has received multiple All-American Scholar recipients each of the past five years.
