Women's Golf In Third Place After First Round of Alamo City Classic

SAN ANTONIO — Two Southwestern women's golfers ended the first day of the Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Club in the top 10, positioning the Pirates in third place heading into the second round tomorrow. 

Linsey Garza paced Southwestern with a 76, picking up birdies on holes 4, 7, and 16 to sit in a tie with UT-Dallas's Karen Alvarez, Trinity's Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente, and UT-Dallas's Lindy Patterson for third place. 

Madison Miller made 11 pars, scoring a 79 to tie for 10th. Isabel Montelongo and Katherine Montgomery finished inside the top 20. Montelongo shot an 80 to tie for 13th place, and Katherine Montgomery scored an 82 to tie for 18th place. Kaylee Cheek rounds out the Southwestern lineup with a 90, tying for 26th place. 

Southwestern scored a combined 317, sitting just eight strokes off first-place UT-Dallas heading into tomorrow's final round. Trinity University scored a 314 and sits in second place. Trinity's Caterina Mora and UT-Dallas's Kimberly Burch tied to lead the field with a score of 75 each.
