GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern women's golf team scored the best round of the West Region Invitational with a 319 in the second round, pulling away from Mary Hardin-Baylor to win the event by two strokes with a 640.
Madison Goldberg led the Pirates with a 155, falling off her first-day pace by three strokes with a 79 to finish the event in second place. Linsey Garza held steady in fourth place, scoring an 81 to finish with a 159. Both Goldberg and Garza led the field in made pars with 22. Katherine Montgomery shot an 86 a day after scoring an 80, finishing with a score of 166 and in a tie for sixth.
Southwestern pulled away thanks in part to the back of the lineup, with Ryleigh Erickson and Sarah Lucido improving on their first-round scores by a combined 17 strokes. A day after scoring an 89, Erickson finished the second round with a 77 to move from 19th all the way up to a tie for sixth. Lucido scored an 82 on the second day to move up to 10th, finishing with a 169.
The Southwestern B team finished in fourth, scoring a combined 719. They were paced by Madison Miller, who finished in the top 10 with a score of 168, finishing eighth. Kaylee Cheek finished 18th with a score of 175. Amanda Gale tied for 29th with a score of 185, and Mikayla Childers shot a 190 to tie for 31st.
Mary Hardin-Baylor's Sydney McConnell scored a 75 in the second round to win the event with a score of 151. The Crusaders finished in second place with a score of 642. Concordia followed in third at 701, and Schreiner finished fifth with a 755.
Southwestern will compete in the SCAC Championships next week, competing on Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20 at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
