Women's Golf Tied For First After Day 1 of West Region Invitational

GEORGETOWN, Texas — After the first round of the West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club, Southwestern women's golf A team sits in a tie for first with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a score of 321. 

Madison Goldberg is one of three Pirates in the top five with a score of 76 and sits in a three-way tie for first with Mary Hardin-Baylor's Sydney McConnell and Sarah Kmiecik. Goldberg was consistent, making par a field-best 14 times to lead the field despite not scoring a birdie, finishing at even-par on par 5 holes. 

Lindsey Garza is currently in fourth place with a score of 78, making par 12 times with a birdie and leading the field in par 4 scoring at two over. Katherine Montgomery is currently in fifth place, scoring 80 and matching Goldberg's par 5 scoring. 

Sarah Lucido and Ryleigh Erickson finished in the top 20. Lucido scored an 87 to finish tied for 14th, and Erickson scored an 89 to finished the day tied for 19th. 

Southwestern's B team fielded a lineup for four, with each Pirate finishing in the top 25. Madison Miller is in 10th place with an 85. Kaylee Cheek and Amanda Gale are tied for 17th with an 88, and Mikayla Childers is tied for 24th with a 91. 

Concordia is currently in fourth with a score of 355, followed by Schreiner with 377. The five teams will conclude the event with a final round tomorrow.
