Women's Golf Repeats as SCAC Champions

BLANCO, Texas – A year after narrowly edging out Trinity University in one of the closest Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) women's golf championships, the Southwestern University Pirates left no drama in defending their title.

Southwestern had been tied with DePauw University for the most women's team golf championships. The Pirates previously won titles in 1998, 1999, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2018.

The Pirates placed four of the top five on the individual leader board with Emily Campbell leading the way, shooting 76 in each round to finish first with a score of 152. Southwestern scored 319 as a team in Round 2 to finish with a combined score of 634 with Trinity finishing second with a 680.

After shooting five over par on the front nine, Campbell recovered to score three birdies on the back nine, making par on 13 of the 18 holes. She finished the championships with an event-high six birdies, making par 21 times, leading Par 4 scoring with a 4.30.

Leilani McDaniel finished second both days, shooting a 77 in each round to finish at 154 for the event, scoring a birdie on the final hole and making par on 11 of the 18 holes in the second round. She made par an event-high 25 times, leading Par 3 scoring at 3.13 and second in Par 4 scoring at 4.40.

Texas Lutheran University's Summer Swift was the only non-Southwestern player to break into the top five, finishing third with a score of 164, picking up a birdie on a Par 5.

Valentina Olivieri-Puentes made a big move, moving from eighth to fourth by improving three strokes on the Round 1 performance to score an 81 in Round 2 for a combined score of 165.
