The Pirates opened the game with a 19-1 run and would never look back as Southwestern University topped the University of Dallas 65-52. A strong team effort was the key to the victory as 3 Pirates recorded double-digit points.
Southwestern was led by junior guard Narisa Trammell's 16 points on 6-7 shooting from the field and 3-4 from behind the arc. Junior center Staley Mullins was just one rebound shy of recording her second consecutive double-double, posting 14 points, 9 rebounds and a team high 5 blocks. Senior Natasha Azizi added in 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Pirates.
A stifling defense forced the Crusaders into 24 turnovers and only 36 percent from the floor.
The win moves the Pirates to 3-3 on the season as they begin conference play. Southwestern will next play at Austin College on Friday at 8:00 p.m. and Colorado College at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
