Hot Shot Centre Hands Pirates Second Conference Loss

DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre College, who is undefeated in conference play, shot 51.7% from the floor and 61.5% from three point range to hand Southwestern their second conference loss of the season, 79-55 Friday night.

Southwestern started out strong, as has become customary for the Pirates, scoring the first four points of the game, before Centre scored thier first field goal four minutes into the contest. Centre out-paced SU the rest of the half and sent the Pirates into the break down 13, 40-27.

Centre tore out of the halftime break to push their lead to 18, 47-29, two minutes into the half and went on an 18-10 run to go up by 26, their largest lead of the game, with 10 minutes to go. Southwestern cut the lead to 18, 65-47, on a pair of free throws by Anna Fareed with 9:25 on the clock. That is as close as the Pirates would get as Centre continued on their hot streak to seal the win.

Southwestern has 13 more field goal attempts as they were +8 in turnovers, but shot just 28.8% from the field and 18.5% from three point range. Chelsea Leeder led all scorers with 17 points while Jordan Owens added in 12. Annie Bourne was the leading rebounder for Southwestern with 12 boards while Fareed posted a team high four steals. Centre's Maggie Prewitt had a banner night, posting a triple-double with 14 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists.

SU falls to 8-8 on the year and 5-2 in the SCAC. They remain on the road to face Sewanee on Saturday night.
