Pirates Offense Sputters, Lose Series at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana - The Pirates put up two runs in the fourth inning and were held scoreless the rest of the way, as they dropped the series at Centenary, 14-2.

 

Centenary once again jumped out to a 3-0 start after three innings, when James scored on a double by Parrott and Clakley hit a 2 RBI single, bringing home Gasporra and Creamer. The Pirates then made things interesting in the top of the 4th inning, when they cut the Gents' lead to 3-2. Jay Sterling scored on a sacrifice fly by Lance Gottardy and Dillon O'Dell scored after Colby Dutton reached on a fielding error by the second baseman.

 

However, things got out of hand for Southwestern in the bottom of the 4th inning, as Centenary scored nine runs to increase their lead to 12-2.  The Gents had 5 RBIs off of four singles and 4 RBIs off of two doubles in the frame. Southwestern had no response in the last three innings, and lost the game 14-2, putting them at 2-26 on the season.

 

The winning pitcher was Cole Thompson, who is 3-0 on the season. He pitched the entire game, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, an earned run; three walks and had two strikeouts.  The Pirates were led offensively by Jay Sterling, who went 2-3 with a double and scored a run.

 

Southwestern continues their road trip, with their next game scheduled Friday, March 29th at 4:00PM, when they take on Austin College.
