On Friday in Georgetown, Southwestern University's men's and women's tennis teams faced off against the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University. The women dominated day one action, sweeping the matches 9-0. The men battled furiously until the end and won two matches late in the day to secure the victory 5-4.
SU men opened up the match-up by winning two of the tree doubles matches. Lam/Prince defeated Cage/Nave 8-6, Parker/Esquivel defeated Hartwell/Allen 8-6 but SU's Guinn/Ferry fell in a tough match to Schenk/Packard 9-8.
In singles action, Alex Lam was defeated by Cage in the first flight 6-3, 6-4. Nick Parker easily handled Allen in the second flight, winning 6-1, 6-1. SU's Esquivel fell in the third flight to Hartwell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. In the fifth flight, Casey Guinn defeated Packard 7-5, 6-1 to put Southwestern in position to win. Charles Prince's win over Schenk in the fourth flight 7-6, 6-2 clinched the win for Southwestern.
The Southwestern women didn't lose a set all afternoon. Finn/Pennington disposed of Hahn/O'Brein in flight one doubles action 8-2. Fitzsimmons/Huskey dominated Davis/Lopez 8-0 and Gaines/Satyavada defeated Davidson/Guiterrez 8-3.
Kelly Finn continued her winning ways in singles action and didn't allow a single game, beating Hahn 6-0, 6-0. Mary Pennington followed suit defeating O'Brein 6-0, 6-2 in the second flight. In the third flight, Jessica Gaines won against Davis 6-0, 7-6. Charlotte Huskey dominated Guiterrez 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth flight. Mary Fitzsimmons and Lali Satyavada defeated Lopez and Davidson respectively by the same count, 6-2, 6-0.
The Pirates will nextr match-up with Texas A&M Club on Saturday at 9:00 am in Georgetown.
