THOMPSON LEADS CONFERENCE IN 200 BACK AFTER PERFORMANCE AT INCARNATE WORD INVITE

Sophomore Bailey Thompson recorded a season best time of 2:12.97 in the 200 yard backstroke at the Incarnate Word Invitational over the weekend to move her into first place in the SCAC conference standings.

The women had two strong days of racing. The Pirates won two races and placed second in four others. Senior Alana Bergfield won the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:11.59 and freshman Sarah Ayers took the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.81.

Senior Jessie Carrier came in a close second in two races, the 50 yard freestyle (25.20) and 100 yard freestyle (55.77). Carrier joined forces with Thompson, Bergfield and Ayers to come in second in the 200 yard individual medley relay with a time of 1:56.18. Thompson's conference leading backstroke time also earned her a second place finish.

On the men's side, two new school records were set on the weekend. Freshman Evan Firth set the new record in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.40. Firth teamed up with freshman Travis Macha, sophomore Taylor Steele, and sophomore John Prater to set the new school record in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The relay team recorded a time of 3:22.65.

Many season bests were recorded during the meet and the Pirates are looking forward to their home meet against McMurry University on Saturday in Georgetown. The meet is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
