Frank M. "Dutch" O'Neill lettered in football every year he attended SU and was captain of the varsity in 1941 and 1942. He was an excellent running back and one of the best punters in the Texas Conference. He was named All-Texas Conference and Little All-America running back, was president of the "S" Association and a member of the Honor and Athletic councils. In 1942, O'Neill withdrew from school to join the Army Air Corps, where he played football for Ellington Field in Houston. After receiving an honorable discharge, he was offered a professional football contract with the Detroit Lions. On his way there, he stopped in Georgetown and was offered the job of head coach at Georgetown High School and chose to make coaching his career. For over 40 years, he coached at high schools throughout Texas, including Hearne and Pearsall, where his teams made the state quarter-finals three times, and Castleberry in Fort Worth, where the Texas High School Coaches named him Coach of the Year. O'Neill and his spouse, Madeline, live in Pearsall, Texas. They have five children and seven grandchildren.
