Southwestern Volleyball Releases 2019 Schedule

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Southwestern University volleyball team announced it's 2019 schedule, featuring 10 home matches and one in-house exhibition game.

Southwestern's preseason schedule includes two non-conference tournaments, highlighted by its home Southwestern University Volleyball Fall Invitational on Aug. 30-31. The Pirates will host the university's second home tournament, led by head coach Don Flora featuring teams from the American Southwest Conference (ASC), Northwest Conference (NWC), The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(SCIAC).

Coach Flora comments, "We continue to look to compete at a high level with the type of schedule we are putting together. Having an elite tournament on our campus to open the season this year is exciting for the program and the campus."

This 2019 season the Pirate's strength of schedule will feature some of Division III's top teams that competed in the 2018 NCCA Championship Tournament such as Aurora, Carthage, Pacific Lutheran, Mary Hardin-Baylor and in-house conference competitors Colorado College and Trinity University. Southwestern will have almost all of their homes games early in the season competing agist fellow regional teams such as Concordia Texas, East Texas Baptist, Hardin-Simmons, Texas Lutheran and Our Lady of the Lake. The majority of the season will be spent on the road competing against Southern Colligate Athletic Conference(SCAC) teams. This means the Pirates will have a 17 away game traveling schedule before SCAC Conference Championships that will be held at Texas Luthern University in Seguin, Texas, on Nov. 8-10.

In the Pirates 2018 season, the Southwestern team was ranked third in the preseason coaches poll, earned its fifth trip to the SCAC women's volleyball title game knocking off ninth-ranked Trinity University and came up short against fourth-ranked Colorado College in the SCAC championship finals. The Pirates also earned two of the SCAC Player of the Week Awards and received the first 2018 SCAC Women's Volleyball Elite 19 Award.

Join the Southwestern Pirates as they kick off their first home matches of the 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 23, against Angelo State University at 1:30 p.m. and the Mary-Hardin Baylor at 4:00 p.m.
