Women's Track Hit High Marks in Trinity Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University women's track and field team did well in their second meet of the season and finished their first outdoor meet at the Trinity Invitational late Friday evening.  

In the 4 x 400 meter race, the women placed fourth overall, beating St Edwards, TLU, and Our Lady of the Lake with a time of 4:17.23. In the women's 100 meter race Lauren Mackrell placed 16th with a time of 13.86 followed by Jalynn Ashley who placed 18th with a time of 14.67 and Sophia Kenedy who placed 19th with a time of 15.01.

Southwestern Cross Country team member Lauren Calzado competed in the women's 1500 meter race placing 6th overall with a time of 5:42.09. Penny Pena was not too far behind Calzado and finished eighth place with a time of 5:45.92.

For the field events, Jaelynn Stewart placed seventh overall in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 40.12 meters and fifth overall in the women's shot put marking at 12.04 meters. Hannah Bruce came in close behind Stewart in the women's hammer throw while placing eighth and marking at 39.90 meters. Bruce placed 18th in shot put with a mark of 9.16 meters. Julia Glandt placed eighth in the women's discus with a mark of 35.22 meters while placing 14th in both the hammer throw with a mark of 29.89 meters and shot put with a mark of  9.77 meters.

In the javelin throw, Morgan Gilpin was the only Southwestern women's competitor and placed eighth with a mark of 30.41 meters

Up next, men's track and field will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the South Alabama Invitational on Friday, March 20 at the University of South Alabama.
