Pirates Close Regular Season at East Texas Invite

COMMERCE, Texas - The Southwestern University track and field team competed in their final event before the SCAC Championships as they competed at the East Texas Invite at TAMU Commerce on Saturday afternoon.

 "We saw some great competition and had some consistent performances," said Head Coach Andrew Diehl. "I'm happy with the way we went out an sill had solid times and marks given the weather."

Senior Tyler Adams set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 41.35m for a 10th place finish while also finishing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.82m. Freshman Brandon Jenkins earned a seventh place finish in the high jump at 1.78m.

Junior John Hattan finished third in the steeplechase at 10:25.1.

On the women's side, sophomore Morgan Gilpin earned a fourth place finish in the javelin at 29.69m. 

"I think if we can get some warm weather our athletes will be in a great position to have some big performances.," said Diehl. "SeWe will benefit greatly from the upcoming off weekend and be ready for our conference championships."

Southwestern will return to action on Friday, April 27th as they head to Seguin for the two-day SCAC Championships.
