Women's Tennis Defeats Shorthanded TLU

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis team swept a shorthanded Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs 9-0 with two forfeits in the lineup.

Mary Cardone and Mariana Quetzeri shutout Mary Eby and Illeana Levy 8-0 in the No. 1 spot and Sara Le returned from injury to pair with Nina Elez to defeat Samantha Stafford and Kaitlyn Enloe in the No. 2 spot. The Bulldogs did not field a third doubles team.

"It was so great to see Sara Le back on the tennis court after suffering a knee injury against WashU in February," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "Mariana continues to play good tennis for us on the singles and doubles court collecting two more important wins"

In singles, Cardone defeated M.P. Hubert and Quetzeri beat Eby with a pair of 6-0 sets. Esther Bowers took down Levy in straight sets and Stephanie Bartusov did the same, avenging a loss from last year.

"Steph dominated on court today after taking a tough loss to TLU last year so it was great to see her get some revenge," Porter said.

With the win, the Pirates improve to 14-2.
