Cardone and Quetzeri Sweep SCAC Women's Tennis Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia - For the second week in a row, Mary Cardone and Mariana Quetzeri of Southwestern University, have been named the SCAC Women's Doubles Team of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 11 through Sunday, March 17.

Cardone, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, and Quetzeri, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, were undefeated at line two, leading the Pirates to a 4-0 record with wins over Concordia (Tex.), No. 17 Mary Washington, No 31 Gustavus Adolphus and No. 40 Bates. Against Concordia, Cardone/Quetzeri managed their competition with ease, defeating Leyla Martinez/

Elaina Evans 8-1. The duo picked up a pair of 8-5 victories over Danielle MirabellaClaire Coleman of Mary Washington and Isabelle RovinskiLauren Hernandez of Bates while also taking care of Simona Potockova/Hannah Borgh of Gustavus Adolphus 8-4.

Other Outstanding Performances: Twin juniors Mary and Zoe Kaffen of Trinity earned an 8-0 victory over sister duo Monica and Megan Davy in the Tigers' 9-0 win over St. Mary's.

 

Cardone of Southwestern University, also picked up the SCAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 11 through Sunday, March 17.

Cardone earned a perfect 4-0 mark last week at the No. 1 position, which included wins over opponents from three ranked teams. The junior earned straight-set victories over Alexi Popovich of Concordia (Tex.), Rachel Summers of No. 17 Mary Washington and Hannah Sweeney of No. 40 Bates.

Though No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus' Briana Hartmann managed to force an extra set, Cardone persevered and took the game 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Other Outstanding Performances: Senior Caroline Kutach led Trinity to a 9-0 victory over St. Mary's in its only match of the week, sweeping Meredith Heckert 6-0, 6-0.
