CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Mary Cardone posted a historic season, as she became the first player in Southwestern women's tennis history to qualify for the NCAA Championship. However, the campaign for the first-year player came to an end Thursday, as Bowdoin's Tess Trinka netted a 7-6 (6), 6-0 victory in the Round of 32 at The Champions Tennis Club.
Cardone completed her first collegiate season with a 20-1 overall record. She was named SCAC Player and Newcomer of the Year for her efforts, while leading the Pirates to a second straight appearance in the league's championship match.
Trinka moves on to compete in the Round of 16, which will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday.
