ABILENE, Texas – The Southwestern University women's tennis team opened up play at the 2016 ITA Regional Championships on Friday.
The Pirates amassed five victories in singles play and two in doubles action on the first day.
Megan Hawkins, who is seeded 11th in the A Draw, won both of her contests to advance to the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Bartusov and Cecile Wilde remain alive in the consolation bracket of the A Draw.
In doubles play, Hawkins and Julie Swets advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of victories.
Bracket play will continue Saturday.
