GEORGETOWN, Texas – For the first time in school history, the Southwestern women's tennis program has a nationally-recognized recruiting class, as head coach Billy Porter's three incoming student-athletes combined to earn a No. 24 rating, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
The Pirates were the lone Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) program and only Texas squad to be listed in the top-25 rankings.
Under the direction of Porter, Southwestern completed the 2014-15 campaign with a 12-7 record and a fifth-place finish in the SCAC Championships.
Porter, who was named the 2015 SCAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, saw all 12 of his women's tennis student-athletes named to the league's academic Honor Roll, while Virginia Stofer was selected to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team and Julie Swets earned conference player of the week laurels on Feb. 24.
