Women’s tennis closes fall season at TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – Mattie Cryer and Maranda Kahl highlighted the weekend with a third place finish in doubles for the Southwestern women's tennis teams at the Doc Skogman Invitational.

Cryer and Kahl battled Pirate teammates Calie Mantooth and Ciera Mires in an all-Southwestern third place match winning 8-2. Both duos fell in the semifinals as Kahl and Cryer lost a tough match, 9-8 to eventual champion of Zarr and Ingram from Texas Lutheran.

Kahl also took home third place honors in "C" Draw singles as she held off Sanchez from UT-Permian Basin, 6-2, 6-1. The first-year tennis player from Sherman fell to eventual champion, Ochoa, also from UTPB.

Cryer also advanced to the third place match in "D" Draw singles, but the match was not finish.

The invitational ends the Pirates fall individual season as they prepare for the spring NCAA team season in February.
