Women's tennis blanks East Texas Baptist, 9-0

MARSHALL, Texas – The Southwestern University women's tennis team continued its dominate start to the 2014 season with a 9-0 shutout at East Texas Baptist on Friday.

The Pirates moved to 2-0 on the year and continue action Saturday at UT-Tyler. Action against the Patriots is set for a 9 a.m. first serve.

Southwestern faced tough matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles before cruising in the remaining four matches.

Aimee Blake pulled ahead Hannah Word at the No. 1 position for a 6-4, 6-3 win while Heba Abedel-Rahim pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position. Both individuals improved to 2-0 on the season as well.

Marieke Visser and Virginia Stofer both cruised at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions while Gabby Hunt picked up an easy 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

The Pirates took an early lead Friday sweeping all three doubles matches. Blake and Elizabeth Ellis fought hard for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while the Pirates No. 2 and No. 2 doubles teams earned 8-1 wins over the Tigers.
