Women's Swim Performs Well in Senior Day Meet

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Southwestern University Pirates celebrated seniors Todd Coachman, Brielle Adolph, Teresa Cropper and Megan Mick in their final home meet against UT-Permian Basin. UTPB took today's win over the Pirates with a final combined score of 259-295. 

Though the Pirates combined score did not end in a win, the Southwestern women's swimming and diving team won its head-to-head meet with the UTPB by a final of 145.5-125.5.  

The seniors who were honored helped the women's team earn their high scores. Adolph had an outstanding performance in the 200-yard IM where she placed second with a time of 2:25.22 as well as the 100-yeard butterfly where Adolph placed fourth with a time of 1:06.76. 

Mick swam the 500-yard freestyle where she placed fourth with a time of 5:52.54 and Cropper also placed 4th for the Pirates in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:26.62. 

Senior Mick and Adolph also helped their team win second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay alongside Natalie Gierat and Brynn Stokes finishing with a time of 1:57.62. 

In other highlights for the meet, Summer Newton placed first in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:26.51.

Natalie Hicks and Christine Vanginault placed second and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:04.40 and 2:08.17. Emma Frey also placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.05. 

Rehgan Hartsell came in first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.46, followed by Natalie Gierat with a time of 1:14.97. Jennifer Turlington also did well by placing third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:48.98. 

For freestyle events, Jesse Stovall placed first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle with times of 25.0 and 55.87. Frey (25.55), placed second behind Stovall in the 50-yard freestyle. Hicks (5:29.49) and Alicia Peters (5:48.18) placed first and third in the 500-yard freestyle. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, Alicia Peters (1:06.26) placed third and as well as Brynn Stokes (2:22.41) who placed third in the 200-yard backstroke. 

Women's swimming also came out on top for the 800-yard freestyle relay with Hartsell, Gierat, Frey and Stovall finishing with the fastest time of 8:14.49. 

Kyla Gorman represented Southwestern as the only pirate diver and scored 168.75 in the 1-meter diving and 167.35 in 3-meter diving. 

The Pirates now finish their last regular meet of the season and prepare for the SCAC Championships in San Antonio that will take place from Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 15.
