Hartsell Named SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, Pirates Finish Third

THE COLONY, Texas - Freshman Rehgan Hartsell was named SCAC Swimmer of the Meet as she continued her tremendous swimming on the final day of the 2018 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Lewisville Aquatic Center.

Southwestern earned a third place finish with 420 points behind first place Trinity at 696 and second place Colorado College at 536. McMurry finished fourth with 207 points followed by Centenary with 170 points. Ausitn College and the Ozarks closed out the standings.

Hartsell shined again, winning the 200 breast with a new SCAC Meet Record of 2:20.52, also good for a B cut time. Hartsell finished with two new SCAC records as well as two NCAA B cuts throughout the week.

Freshman Breely Peterson won the 200 fly on Saturday evening with a time of 2:12.74, just holding off Ellen Silk of Colorado College. 

The team of Hartsell, junior Cara Chin, freshman Kate Russell, and junior Erika Dubros placed third in the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:38.05.

For Hartsell, she becomes the first Southwestern swimmer, male or female, to earn SCAC Swimmer of the Meet. 

The Pirates will await to hear if any names will be called to the 2018 NCAA Championships in Indianapolis from March 21-24.
