Morris sets school record in 1650 freestyle, as Pirates win Trinity Invite

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University women's swimming & diving team captured a first-place finish at the Trinity Invite on Sunday.

The Pirates amassed 774 points, topping Trinity (760), Texas-Permian Basin (651), Wayland Baptist (476) and McMurry (229).

Alexandra Morris paced Southwestern's championship performance by setting a school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The junior from Helotes touched the wall with a time of 18:21.37, nearly 13 seconds better than her previous mark set in 2014.

Taylor Adams and Kenly Gaynor each logged runner-up finishes in the 200- and 100-yard butterfly events, respectively.

Meanwhile, the foursome of Gaynor, Erika Dubros, Natalie Lesnick and Marisa McCormack combined to place second in the 400-yard medley relay.

The Pirates will return to action on January 8, 2016. Southwestern's first competition of the new year is a tri-meet in Pensacola, Fla., against West Florida and Birmingham-Southern.
