Pirate Softball Wins First Home Doubleheader Against OLLU

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University' softball team improved 5-1 in their season after a doubleheader sweep over the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints 7-0 and 4-3.
 
In the first game against OLLU, starting pitcher Lindsey Longuet kept the Saints to zero runs, with only two hits, three walks and eight strikeouts. Southwestern scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to then scored six runs with Tori Montemayor, Katelyn Francis and Kathryn Dull producing the hits to score the runs.
 
In the second game, the Pirates were off to a good start by scoring the first run in the bottom of the second. In the top of the fourth, OLLU scored two runs to gain the lead over the Pirates. Sydney Scott took a huge swing at the ball and sent it past the center field fence making her the first Pirates to make a home run this season. The Saint's were able to score a run in the top of the seventh but Montemayor fired back with the second home run of the season.
 
With the game tied up in the seventh causing the game to go into an eighth-inning, Kaitlynn Copher doubled the winning run, earning her another RBI and ending the game 4-3 with another Pirate win. Pitcher Lexi Shafer held the Saints to three runs, three hits and four strikeouts making her 3-0 in the season. Kinly McCaffrey pitched for one inning and held the Saints to zero runs, one hit and four strikeouts, earning her one save.
 
Up next, softball will get ready to scrimmage St. Edwards University this Sunday, Feb. 23, at 1 and 3 p.m. The team will then travel to Belton to play against UMHB on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 4 and 6 p.m.
