Softball Takes Doubleheader Against UMHB
GEORGETOWN, Texas – In a close doubleheader against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Southwestern University softball team was able to sweep the Cru 6-2 and 5-3 this Tuesday evening.

Now improved to  27-4 in the season, the Pirates have reached a 16-game winning streak.  Starting the first game UMHB took the first lead in the second inning. Southwestern answered back when Sydney Scott singled to the shortstop to allow Kealie House to score the first run. The Cru would gain the lead again after Avery Kelly hit a solo home run, making it 2-1 in the fourth inning.  However, the Cru's lead would not last long when senior Celeste Silvas singled right down the middle of the second and third base to score two RBI's making the game 3-2 with the Pirates advantage.

Then again the Jordan Farber and Andrea Hern both hit singles to score two more RBI's in the fifth inning, giving the Pirates a three-run lead over the Cru. Sophomore pitcher Lexi Shafer came in for Lindsey Longuet and kept UMHB from scoring any runs to try and catch up to the Pirates.  Katie Bricarell hit her seventh home run of the season to end the first game 6-2 in the top of the seventh.

In the second game, once again UMHB was first on the scoreboard after Milly Cesare singled to left field for an RBI. Once again the Pirates answered back in the next inning with Katelyn Francis walking in a run after Hern forced a walk. Then freshman Kylie Nixon singled to right-center field to get one RBI making the game 2-1 in the Pirates favor.

Once again Nixon would single to right center field to gain two more RBI's for Southwestern to make the game 4-1 in the fourth inning. UMHB scored two more runs in the fifth inning to make the game 4-3 with the Pirates leading by one. However, with one final RBI by Francis in the fifth, the Pirates were able to keep the Cru from reaching home plate to end the final game 5-3.

Up next, the Pirates get back into conference play and will travel to Sherman, Texas, to play a four-game series against the Austin College Roos April 12-13.
