Bricarell and Longuet Sweep SCAC Player of the Week Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia - Both Katie Bricarell and Lindsey Longuet take both of the Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) hitter and pitcher of the week awards for week ten. Louguet who is winning her third pitcher of the week award this season will share the recognition alongside Bricarell who is winning her first hitter of the week award this year.

Bricarell, a junior utility player from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, April 1st through Sunday, April 7th.

Bricarell led the Pirates offensively last weekend to a three-game conference sweep of Trinity to improve to 12-3 on the year in league play. The junior hit .500 (4-for-8) with five RBI, a run scored and a home run.

In Sunday's final game of the series, Bricarell belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to take sole possession of the SCAC lead in both home runs (6) and runs batted in (28). For the week, she finished with an on-base percentage of .556 and a slugging percentage of .875.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC: Senior catcher Cassidy McDaris of Austin College had a big week at the plate to help lead the 'Roos to their first win of the season and their first SCAC win since 2017. McDaris batted .429 (3-for-7) with four RBI, two doubles, a run scored and a slugging percentage of .714. Junior catcher Katelyn Lazarek of Dallas keyed the comeback for the Crusaders in their win over Austin College with a two-RBI double to tie the game before scoring the go-ahead run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore first baseman Courtney Bigley of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a 3-1 series win over Centenary last week. Bigley went 5-for-10 at the plate with three extra-base hits, five RBI, a run scored. The sophomore supplied the go-ahead two-RBI home run to clinch the series in game four.

Longuet, a junior pitcher from Missouri City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 1st through Sunday, April 7th.

Longuet was dominant last weekend earning her ninth and 10th wins of the season in helping the Pirates sweep Trinity, 3-0, in a weather-shortened series. The junior allowed just two hits in 12.0 innings of work and struck out nine, including seven in the 2-0 opening series victory. Longuet currently leads the SCAC in wins (10) and strikeouts (68) and is second in ERA (1.71).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC: Junior Hannah Ortiz of Schreiner was excellent in the circle last weekend earning her third and fourth wins of the season in helping the Mountaineers secure a 3-1 series win over Centenary. Ortiz pitched a pair of complete game shutouts, allowing just seven hits in 14 innings of work while striking out nine.
