Softball Rides Winning Streak in 6-0 Season

Softball Rides Winning Streak in 6-0 Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas  – The softball team is continuing its winning streak and is now  6-0 in the season, seizing the doubleheader win over Our Lady of the Lake University.

In the first game, the Pirates were able to score two runs by Celeste Silvas and Kaitlynn Copher in the first inning. For the rest of the seven innings, the Pirates struggled to score any more runs on the Saints pitcher Ciera Martinez.

However, Lindsey Longuet was able to shut out OLLU to no runs and only two hits the entire game. Longuet also threw five strikes ending game one 2-0.

In the second game, the Pirates were slow in the first two innings and had trouble scoring. Pitcher Bailey Meyer, taking Longuet's place on the mound for the second game, kept the Saints at bay.

This allowed  Jordan Farber and Kylie Nixon to score two runs in the top of the third and then to follow with Copher and Sydney Scott scoring the final two runs, ending the final game 4-0.  Meyer pitched a complete game shut out with a team season-high of nine strikeouts.

Up next, Pirate's softball will be back in Georgetown next Tuesday, Feb. 26, where they will host a doubleheader against The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Crusaders. Game one will be at 4:00 p.m. and game two will be at 6:00 p.m.
