Softball closes home stand with split against Concordia

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern's bats were strong on Tuesday as the Pirates split non-conference play against Concordia. The Tornados won game one 13-7 before SU blanked Concordia 8-0 in five innings in game two.

Southwestern posted three runs in the first inning on Kaitlynn Copher's three RBI triple. Concordia went on a roll and posted eight runs in the second and five in the third to take a commanding lead that would hold up as SU fell 13-7.

The Pirates scored in all but one inning in game two and were solid defensively, holding Concordia off the scoreboard. Chandler Smith earned the complete game shutout on the mound for her first win of the season.

SU had seven players hit over .500 on the day and was led by Copher who was 4-7 with two runs scored, six RBIs, one triple and one homerun. Taylor Curtis and Katie Bricarell also went 4-7.

Southwestern (3-7) heads out for their first road contest on Friday, March 4th as they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Pirates face Texas Lutheran for a double header beginning at 5 pm.
