Pirate win fueled by huge inning and no hitter

Pirate win fueled by huge inning and no hitter

Southwestern was firing on all cylinders in game one of the SCAC Softball Championship, snagging an 8-0 win over Austin College. Starting pitcher Cozette Palmer posted her first career no-hitter in the win.

A run in the second inning was crucial for the Pirates. Berkeley Bacon started things off with a one-out walk and Caroline Young followed with a single through the left side to move a runner into scoring position. A wild pitch moved Bacon to third and she was brought home on a 'Roo error on Linsay Biggers grounder.

Southwestern absolutely exploded in the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits with one AC error to secure the win.

Palmer was untouchable, allowing no hits or walks in five innings of work while striking out five. Austin College posted just one baserunner on a Pirate error in the win.

Young led at the plate with a monstrous 2-3 with 3 RBIs.

The Pirates improve to 17-19 on the year with the win and advance to play #1 seed Texas Lutheran University at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.
