TUCSON, Arizona – Southwestern defeated Marion 10-1 in five innings of play on Wednesday afternoon. The Pirates batted through the order and scored 8 runs in the 1st inning en route to the victory.
Karen Ramirez led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashleigh Scott. She moved to third on a single by Tessa Galloway. Kayla Irvin followed with a RBI double. Then Stacy Rosengren walked to load the bases and Jessica Bryant knocked in two runs with a double. A batter later, Linsay Biggers singled in two more runs. Abigail O'Connor singled to bring Ramirez up to bat for the second time in the inning. This time around, she smashed a three run homer to put the Pirates up 8-0.
SU struck again in the top of the 5th inning. Ramirez hit a two RBI triple to extend the lead to 10-0. Marian scored a run in the bottom half of the frame, but it wasn't enough to continue the game and it ended 10-1.
The entire Southwestern offense caught fire and was led by the hot bat of Karen Ramirez, who went 3-3, with a home run, a triple, a walk, five runs batted in, and scored twice. Kelsey Kingston pitched well, giving up only one hit along the way to the complete game victory. The Pirates improved to 12-7 on the year and Marian fell to 2-7.
