Bats Quieted in Game 1, Roar Back in Game 2

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates were shutout 8-0 in game one and fought back to defeat Our Lady of the Lake 8-7 in game two on Saturday afternoon.

OLLU's Stone drove the first pitch of the game into the gap in left center for a double.  She advanced to third on a sacrifice by Perez.  Pitcher Kelsey Kingston struck out the next two batters to work out of the early threat for the Pirates. 

In the top of the second, Hinojosa led off with a single to left field.  She advanced to second on a ground out by Ramirez.  Hinojosa took third on a passed ball.  She scored on a RBI bloop single to center field by Moreno to take the 1-0 lead for the Saints.

Perez led off the third with a double down the left field line and took third on a sacrifice bunt by Miller.  Again, Kingston worked out of the jam by retiring the next two Saints. 

In the bottom half, Linsay Biggers reached with one out on a bunt single towards third and beat out the throw.  Abigail O'Connor followed with a single to right center.  Then Karen Ramirez hit a sharp grounder to third, but it was cleanly fielded and turned into a double play to end the Pirate threat. 

The Saints got a leadoff walk from Ramirez in the fourth.  Moreno reached on an error by the shortstop and both OLLU players scored to make it a 3-0 game.  They added three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to secure the 8-0 victory.

Idrogo pitched a three hitter and earned the complete game win for the Saints in game one of the doubleheader.

In game two of the day, the Saints scored four runs in the top of the third inning.  The scoring outburst began with a runner reaching on an error followed by a trio of singles and a double before the Pirates could end the rally.

Abigail O'Connor led off with a single through the left side in the bottom half of the frame.  Ramirez followed with a single between first and second.  Ashleigh Scott flew out to left field, but the throw in got away and the Pirate runners advanced to second and third.   Galloway grounded out to second which allowed O'Connor to score.  Then Ramirez scored on a wild pitch with Irvin at the plate to cut it to a 4-2 game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ramos hit a one out single through the left side and advanced to second on a ground out by Biggers.  She moved to third on a single to left by O'Connor.  Ramirez followed with a RBI single through the left side and Scott hit an RBI double to left center to tie the game at 4-4.

OLLU's Sendejo singled and later scored in the top of the fifth for the 5-4 lead.

The Bucs' would rally again as Stacy Rosengren walked with one out in the fifth.  Bryant followed with a single through the left side.  Ramos walked to load the bases.  Then Christina Crandall came in to pinch hit and put a single through the right side to score Rosengren and tie the game.  Ramirez followed and drove in three runs with a double that bounced off the wall in center field to give the Pirates the 8-5 lead. 

OLLU started with a trio of walks in the top of the sixth inning.  Perez reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop.  The shortstop made the out at second base, but was taken out on the play and two runs scored to cut it to 8-7.

The Saints reached base in the top of the seventh with a one out walk.  The runner advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice bunt.  With two outs and the tying run on third, pitcher Tamara Belilove got a fly out to Michelle Ramos in deep center field to save the game for the Pirates.

The Pirates were led offensively by Karen Ramirez who was 3-3, with four RBI, a double, and scored a run.  Kayla Irvin earned the win and Tamara Belilove garnered the save.  At the end of the day, Southwestern moved to a 7-7 record and Our Lady of the Lake to 11-5.

The next action for the Pirates is a doubleheader at home against Schreiner on Tuesday, March 5th, beginning at 1:00pm.
