Women's Soccer Seals Spot in Championship With Win Over Dallas
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Going into the game with an offensive mindset and the chance to claim the title right around the corner, Southwestern women's soccer pulled a 2-0 victory over Dallas this afternoon.

The Pirates, now 11-5 in the season, came into the game ready to play. In the first half, sophomore Maya Fuller was able to sink the ball at the back of the net, with an assist by Hallie Rutherford, to give the Pirates an early lead only 25:46 minutes into the game.

"I would just like to thank my team for setting me up with the perfect goal and I felt really good scoring it," says Fuller who would add her fourth goal for the season.

With eight shots on the Crusaders goal in the first half from Hanna Sanderson, Alexis Barrientez, Bri Montgomery, and Laura Lee, the Southwestern Pirates would not yield in fighting to solidify their win to move on in the championship.

Starting the second half, the Pirates came back with urgency and scored the second goal only five minutes into the beginning of the half. Rutherford showed her skills with another perfectly executed set up, giving Katy Ewton the chance to score the second and final goal of the game for the Pirates.

The Pirates would then continue to protect goalie Mary Cardone and did not allow the Crusaders any shots on goal for the rest of the game, sealing their place in the finals.

Coach Linda Hamilton said, "[I'm] Just really happy and relieved we were able to get the victory."

She praised her team for not slacking up or slowing down the pressure..

"It's always tough to beat a good team twice in a row, much less this was our third time playing Dallas, so I am just really proud of the team and the players for doing their job and getting to the finals so that they have a chance to be SCAC Champions," the coach added.

Up next, the Pirates move forward to the final match Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. against the Trinity Tigers for the SCAC Championship Title.
