Southwestern Shuts Out Huston-Tilloton

Southwestern Shuts Out Huston-Tilloton

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern women's soccer team, behind goals from Hallie Rutherford and Alexis Barrientez, rolled past Huston-Tillotson 2-0  for their second-straight win.

The Pirates would be aggressive against the Rams, firing off 14 shots in the game, including four on frame.

In the first half, SU and HT would remain scoreless through the first 30 minutes.

In the 36th minute though, the Pirates would break through the Rams' defensive backline as Rutherford took the goalie one-on-one, firing past her for the game's first goal and the lead. For Rutherford, this would make her second goal of her career.

In the second half, SU wasted no time doubling their lead as Barrientez found the back of the net in the 50th minute for her second goal of the season.

The lead was more than enough for the Pirates' defense, who limited HT to only nine shots on the night, while goalie Mary Cardone, had four saves, posting her second shutout of the season.

Southwestern's five-game home-stand continues, returning to conference play on Friday to take on Centenary at 7 p.m. from Varsity Field.
