Pirates upset bid falls short in 3-1 loss to #3 Trinity

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates led at halftime but were unable to pull off the upset as #3 Trinity scored three second half goals to defeat SU 3-1.

Southwestern drew first blood, taking advantage of a free kick 40 yards from goal. Ana Gutierrez's lofting ball drifted past TU's keeper and off the far post to the awaiting foot of Mady Akers who buried the ball into the back of the open net. The goal was the first one scored on the Tigers in nearly a month. 

Early in the second half TU evened the count and took the lead on a penalty kick with 22:37 remaining on the clock. 

Southwestern (9-6, 7-3) remains at home to close regular season home action against Schreiner on Sunday at 2 pm.
