Five earn All-SCAC recognition

Highlighted by Sarah Bevins' First Team All-SCAC selection, five Southwestern women's soccer student-athletes secured a spot in the post season report.

Bevins, a sophomore forward from Austin, Texas, was SCAC Newcomer of the Year last year and followed it up with her first All-SCAC First Team selection. Bevins was tied for first on the team in goals with two and added in one assist to tie for the SU lead in points with five. She took 21 shots, six on goal for a .286 shots on goal percentage and scored one game winning goal this season. Bevins was also an SCAC All-Tournament Team selection this season.

Three Pirates earned Second Team selections, Ana Gutierrez, Carol Bentley and Katherine Rodgers.

Gutierrez had a breakout first-year with the Pirates, tying Bevins in goals, assists and points, an impressive feat for a defender. Gutierrez took 10 shots with five being on frame for a .500 shots on goal percentage and scored two game winners this season.

Bentley, a senior from Katy, Texas, led the Pirates from the midfield and often started the fruitful counter attacks. Bentley started all 20 contests this season and took 19 shots with three being on goal for a .158 shots on goal percentage. Bentley was a Third Team selection in 2011.

Rodgers, a senior goalkeeper from Chattanooga, Tenn., was a team leader in every aspect of the game, guiding the Pirates from between the pipes. Rodgers started all but one contest this year, logging 1706 minutes in goal. She allowed 30 goals this season for a 1.58 goals against average and posted a .730 save percentage and three shutouts.

Kirsten Mazur, a junior defender from Georgetown, Texas, rounded out the Pirate selections with an Honorable Mention nod.

Southwestern closed the season at 5-13-2 overall and 5-6-1 in the SCAC after falling to Austin College 1-0 in the SCAC Quarterfinals.
