Millican scores game-winner in back-to-back contests

SHREVEPORT, La. – Mackenzie Millican's goal in the 23rd minute was the only score of the day as the Pirates won 1-0 over Centenary College on Sunday afternoon.

It was balanced early in the game, but it didn't take long for the Pirates to take control of the contest as Millican punched home Carol Bentley's pass to put the Pirates up 1-0.

Southwestern controlled the rest of the half, winning the shot count 9-3 in the half, but weren't able to pad their lead any before halftime.

The Pirates continued their strong play in the second half but couldn't put the second goal away as the time ticked down.

Southwestern closed out the match for the 1-0 win, but the Pirates controlled the shot count 16-7. Katherine Rodgers posted the shutout with three saves on the afternoon while her counterpart, Erica Coker, had two saves.

The Pirates improve to 5-8-1 on the year and 5-2 in the SCAC while Centenary falls to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in the SCAC.  SU heads to Texas Lutheran on Friday at 3 p.m. for their next SCAC contest.
