Women’s soccer drops conference opener in OT

IRVING, Texas – Just five minutes into overtime UD sealed Southwestern's fate with a goal to hand the Pirates a 1-0 loss to open conference action.

The Pirates had the first three good looks at goal to open the game, but Dallas quickly responded and took their shots at SU.

The Pirates led the shot count 6-5 at halftime and were near even in corner kicks.

As the second half got underway it was clear a different Crusader team took the field. UD became more aggressive and fired off 15 shots in the second half while Southwestern took nine.

Despite not scoring, Dallas had all the momentum they needed heading into overtime and took four shots before making the fifth count, scoring the game winner in the 96th minute.

SU trailed 24-15 in shots for the match and 5-2 in corners and fall to 0-7-1 on the year, 0-1 in the SCAC. Dallas improves to 3-4 overall and begins at 1-0 in conference action.

Southwestern remains on the road to face Austin College on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sherman.
