Early goals lead to Pirate loss

RICHARDSON, Texas – UT Dallas took control of the game in the 8th minute and never trailed as Southwestern fell 5-0 on Friday night.

UTD seized control from the opening whistle, getting four shots off in two minutes before Alissa Burch scored the first goal in the eighth minute, assisted by Carli Beckett.

Less than ten minute later UTD made it a 2-0 lead as Burch assisted along with Andrea Guevara as Beckett scored in the 18th minute. The Pirate defense buckled down the rest of the half and didn't along any more goals and SU trailed 2-0 at the break.

Southwestern got just one shot in the half, a header from first-year Chickie Murphy, that was on target but saved by Macaire Ament just before the halftime buzzer sounded.

As the second half got underway UTD wasted no time extending their lead, scoring in the 48th and 63rd minutes and put the final nail in the coffin with a goal at the 82nd minute. Southwestern got their only shot of the second half in the 56th minute as Carol Bentley put one on frame, but once again Ament was there for the save.

Southwestern trailed 25-2 in shots and 11-2 in corner kicks. Katherine Rodgers recorded four saves on seven shots on goal while starting in goal and Kylie Hunt posted six saves on eight shots on goal in relief.

The Pirates fall to 0-5-1 on the year while UTD remains undefeated at 4-0. SU next heads to Tyler to face UT Tyler on Sunday at 1 p.m.
