IRVING, Texas – In their second weekend playing in Dallas, the Southwestern women's lacrosse team took their first loss against the Westminster College Titans 22-14 on Sunday.
At the start of the game, the Pirates took an early lead with three goals scored by Johnee Wolter, Hayley Donnelly and Raven Garcia. Westminster would answer back with one goal, but the Southwestern would fire back two more goals making the game 5-1 with 18:33 minutes into the first half.
The game pace changed after Margo Mason scored three back to back goals for the Titans. Even after Donnelly scoring another goal for the Pirates, Mason would then again score three more goals to give Westminster their first lead in the game 6-7 over the Pirates. The Titans kept the lead for the rest of the first half until Southwestern was able to score three goals within the last three minutes and tie the game 11-11 going into halftime.
Westminster came into the second half with some fire and scored four goals on the Pirates within the first five minutes of the game. Madison Godleski, Ronni Winter and Donnally were able to score for the Pirates; however, the rest of the shots the Pirates would take could not seem to find the back of the cage. Westminster was able to sink all of their shots taken in the second half. With most of the Titans goals made by Mason, the Pirates would fall 14-22 to Westminster.
Donnally was the high scorer of the Pirates with a total of four goals and two ground balls. Gracia, Winter, Godleski and Wolter all had two goals for the Pirates and Julia Tape had the high with five ground balls.
The Pirates will be back in Georgetown to play their first home game against Hendrix College. The match will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, on Varsity Field at 1:00 p.m.
