GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern put up a tough fight but were ultimately overpowered by the experienced Colorado College squad, falling 20-11 Thursday night.

Southwestern was first on the board as Allison Schmitt scored unassisted a minute and half into the game. Anne Brown added a goal two minutes later on a free position to shot give SU an early 2-0.

Colorado College awoke from their haze and quickly rattled off six straight goals to go up 6-2 with 11 minutes to play in the half. SU and CC traded goals the rest of the half as the Pirates faced a four goal deficit at halftime, 9-5.

Two quick goals to start the second by the Tigers made SU's comeback even more challenging, but Southwestern never gave up. Colorado College was just too strong as they never allowed the Pirates back in the game.

Caitlin Stanyard was outstanding in goal, facing 40 shots and recording 11 saves. The Pirates struggled in transition as they converted on just 10 of their 28 clears and committed 40 turnovers in the loss.

Schmitt led offensively for Southwestern with three goals and two assists while Kaitlyn Campbell and Brown added two goals each.

The loss drops SU to 2-1 on the year. They remain at home to take on fellow first year program Augsburg College on Friday night at 5 p.m.
